In this wide stretch of the river, the current seems to be barely moving, but just upstream where the river is narrow and shallow the current flows at a much faster pace. The character of the river can change in a very short distance. Where the river is confined by high rocky banks it runs deep and fast. Where there are low sandy banks the river is wide and the current sluggish.
