Photo of upper Suwannee River between Roline Landing and Turner Bridge Boat Ramp.

Low lying areas on the sides of the river flood when water levels rise and drain back into the river as water levels fall. Only trees which can live either in or out of the water can survive in these areas. If the water level should rise just a few feet, hundreds of acres on the side of the river would begin to fill with water.
